Background

We have between 25 and 30 members and are always interested in new players, particularly female players who would like to play for our mixed teams.

Club membership

Struttles is a membership-based club, so, in order to play, you must be willing to pay the fees set out below. In the interests of fairness, and to ensure sound finances, there are no exceptions!

Prospective new members can play as a guest, for three club nights, so you can judge if the club is right for you, and we can assess your level of play and potential.

Struttles, and its members, are affiliated to Badminton England and to the Gloucestershire Badminton League, through which we have civil liability insurance cover.

Venue & Club night

Struttles plays at Stratford Park Leisure Centre, Stratford Park, Gloucestershire, GL5 4AF every Tuesday evening between 8pm and 10 pm. (click for map)

We hire four courts each evening, however, from October until the end of March, two courts are used for matches most evenings.

All games are doubles and use the new 21 point scoring system. We operate a peg-board system to select games.

Fees

Fees of £45* are payed, in advance, three times per (August, December and April). Each payment covers the following 4 months.

*Full-time students pay £40

Guest fees are £4 per night (£3 for full-time students)

Fees cover the cost of court hire, feather shuttle cocks and affiliation to Badminton England and the Gloucestershire Badminton League.

Matches

We currently have two mens teams and two mixed teams in the Gloucestershire league. All teams are selected by the selection committee which is elected at the AGM. Teams select their own captain.

There is a £2 match fee each time you play in a league game. For home games players will be asked to contribute refreshments.

Annual general meeting

We organise one general meeting, usually after the end of the league season. A typical agenda would include:

  • Chairman
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
• Fees for the next season
• Teams to be entered for next season
• Election of club officers and selection committee

Members may raise other matters of interest or concern.

Social events

The club organises one or two social events, e.g. barbecue or skittles, each year.

Members often frequent a local watering hole after club night!
